DSC03796 Lanceleaf Milkweed (Asclepias lanceolata)
This is an uncommon milkweed in Southeast Texas. It superficially resembles A. curassavica, the tropical milkweed, but its leaves are very much different. The leaves of A. lanceolata are very narrow and grass-like. It is next to impossible to locate this plant in a grassy area if it is not blooming or displaying a seed pod. The color of the flowers is similar to that of the flowers of butterflyweed, A. tuberosa. But butterflyweed is knee high or shorter, and A. lanceolata is often waist high.

Friday, June 20th from 10AM to 2PM David Lewis will be here to teach us about what we find at the preserve. Bring water and mosquito repellent.
Volunteer Workday
For the month of June you may join a work group at the preserve by sending an email to watsonrnpp@gmail.com. Put Volunteer in the subject line and tell us what day you want to come. You can request multiple days. Bring safety gear and mosquito repellent. We will provide tools, water and snacks.
