The blooms of the Carolina buckthorn are not at all showy. They are tiny and greenish white.
I had never paid attention to the blooms of the Carolina buckthorn until one day I walked passed a specimen and my attention was drawn to the hum of bees and the flutter of butterfly wings. At sat down and observed for a few minutes. At one point there were 6 zebra swallowtails feeding on that little tree! Several species of butterflies were drawn to it, in addition to a host of bees.
