Watson Rare Native Plant Preserve in the Summer

This first time I saw the Watson Rare Native Plant Preserve was in August. Although it was a typical upper Gulf Coast summer day, I was extremely happy to brave the heat and humidity, for a field of Liatris pycnostachya was in bloom and the breath-takingly beautiful flowers were swarming with butterflies: many of them showy swallowtails such as the black swallow tail, the palemedes, giant swallowtail, tiger swallowtail.... Birding Hike
Saturday, April13th from 9am to 10am Lisa and Kathleen Appelbaum will help you identify birds and answer any questions about eBird. Bring binoculars and a friend.
Wildflower Walk
Saturday, April 20th at 9:30 Joe Liggio and volunteers will tell us the history of the preserve and point out and name all the plants.
Volunteer Workday
Saturday, April 27th 9am to Noon
We plan to work on the boardwalk. We will be washing the surface with soapy water. We will provide water and snacks.
